Our new Olive Wood Salad Servers are a unique piece made with fair trade practices and sustainable materials. The detail in the salad servers make these not only a practical serving tool, but also a meaningful piece of art to keep on your dining table.
Each pair of salad servers are hand-carved in Kenya from the olive wood and accented with a batiked cowbone handle. Acacia Creations artisan partners only use ethically sourced cow bone due to their values of animal rights and the preservation of wildlife throughout Africa. Most of the bone and horn used in Acacia Creations products is from Maasia herdsmen who lost animals in periods of drought. By purchasing these materials to accent artisan made products they are helping the herdsmen recover lost income due to the loss of their animals. The final step of crafting these unique salad servers is treating each server with food-safe sunflower oil.
So who is behind the beautiful craftsmanship? These beautiful fair trade salad servers, from our partner brand Acacia Creations, are crafted by an artisan named Mutuku. Mutuku has been working with olive wood in rural Kenya for his entire life. He and his team cover large areas collecting fallen wood. At their workshop, they hand-carve each bowl into beautiful tabletop pieces. The entire community benefits from this skilled trade and the area is now known throughout Kenya for its woodwork.
Acacia Creations also gives back by providing opportunities for makers to expand their own entrepreneur skills through interest free loans and by sponsoring classes artisans feel will be valuable. Acacia Creations continues to give back through their incubator for other artisan groups which gives space to groups who might not be able to typically afford a workspace.
These gorgeous fair trade salad servers make a unique wedding gift, housewarming gift , or an impactful touch to your own kitchen because they share a story. Serve with purpose with these salad servers. Check out more fair trade artisan made goods from Acacia Creations here.
